“…..David hurried and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine.” 1 Samuel 17:48b

Several months ago I watched a documentary film by British photojournalist Tim Hetherington and American journalist Sabastian Junger. These two journalists were on assignment for Vanity Fair magazine. Their assignment required that they become embedded with the Second Platoon, B Company, 2nd Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment (airborne), 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team of the U.S. Army in the Korengal Valley . The title of this documentary was RESTREPO and was named after one of the soldiers who had been killed in battle previous to their arrival. (PFC Juan Sabastian Restrepo)

The Korengal Valley is known for some of the fiercest battle in all of Afghanistan. During the film the bravery, vulnerability and loyalty of these soldiers became evident. They are true heroes, but they are just normal everyday people like you and me. However their mindset was not one of defeat or even defense. They knew their mission and they were OFFENSIVE WITH IT. One of the “writings on the walls” of their fortress said: “The best defense is whoever has the best OFFENSE!”

Those wise words stuck in my brain that day. They are true. I know that they are especially true in the life of a Christian. I spent so much of my Christian life feeling like I was failing. I spent day after day of my walk with God focusing on “defending” my position. I was always on the DEFENSE instead of the OFFENSE. I believe that God wants us to know that we have the BEST OFFENSE because that in itself is the best DEFENSE we have!

My online Bible Study called “Every Step Victorious” spent some time this week in 1 Samuel 17 looking at the familiar story of David and Goliath. When Goliath started to move; David went into OFFENSE MODE. He ran toward Goliath! He knew what these soldiers in Afghanistan know! The best defense is whoever has the best offense . David knew that He had the best offense in the “Lord of Hosts.” (1 Samuel 17:45-47) He had experienced trusting God in the past. God had been the faithful victor more than one time for him. He trusted God and RAN TOWARD GOLIATH armed with a slingshot, five stones and the POWER OF GOD! David went on the OFFENSE instead of waiting to defend his position against Goliath’s attacks.

Your best defense against Satan’s attacks: BE OFFENSIVE! Don’t wait on Satan to attack. Instead, TRUST in the Lord with all your heart! By faith, RESIST the devil through God’s Word. Be on the offensive. Rebuke the devil and he has to run away from you. Rebuke him through prayer and the Word of God. (James 4:7) YOU CAN TAKE EVERY STEP VICTORIOUS!!
Encouraging and Offensive Scripture:
• James 4:7
• Romans 6:14
• Romans 8:37
• 1 John 5:18
• 2 Timothy 1:7

“Have I not commanded you?  Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you where ever you go.”  Joshua 1:9

It has been truthfully said…..if you can change the way a person thinks you can change the way that person lives! Could this be the reason that the devil wants us to think the way he thinks?  And just how does he think?

In Genesis 3:1 the devil is called a serpent and cunning.  In John 8:44 Jesus says that he is the father of lies and he only speaks in his native language of lying!  Wow! No wonder so many Christians are not experiencing the abundant, victorious life!  Could it be that they believe what they are hearing from the devil to the point that they are paralyzed with fear, dismay, confusion and doubt?

Romans 12:2 says….”and do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind….”

Joshua 1:9 is where I choose to renew my mind today!  God is with me and when God is with me who can be against me?
